Built to make device identification simpler and more useful

IMEI Checker by Ranjot is an independent, free-to-use service created to help people identify the likely brand and model of a mobile device from its IMEI. The aim is straightforward: make useful device information easier to access without forcing ordinary users to create an account or pay for a basic check.

Why we built it

Used phones move between owners, repair shops, recyclers and marketplaces every day. It is surprisingly common for someone to have an IMEI but not know the exact model, or for a found device to be difficult to reconnect with its owner. Ranjot brings those simple tasks into one privacy-conscious service.

Open-data foundation

The device-identification database is built from open-source/publicly available device-identification data and maintained Ranjot records. Open-source data can contain errors or gaps, so results are provided as helpful identification information rather than a guarantee. The service is not an official GSMA, carrier, manufacturer, insurance or police database.

Help us improve incorrect device information

If a lookup result looks wrong, visitors can submit the correct manufacturer and model from the result screen. Suggestions go into a private review queue and cannot change the database until a Ranjot administrator approves them.

Lost and found, without a public accusation wall

Lost, stolen and found-device submissions are not published as a public community feed. They go into a private review workflow. When a found-device IMEI matches a lost/stolen report, the admin dashboard flags a possible match for human review. Contact details are kept private.

For businesses too

Approved mobile shops and legitimate organisations can request API access. This can help with device intake, repair workflows and inventory identification. API access is reviewed and rate-limited.
